Depression Counselling
Depression counselling is a form of therapy that helps people experiencing symptoms such as low mood, persistent sadness, difficulty concentrating and lack of motivation. Depression can be caused by any number of things, including a negative inner critic, persistent belief in negative messages created by your inner critic, lack of ability to challenge negative thoughts, low self-esteem and self-worth, few skills to build resilience, overwhelming adversity, and/or few coping skills. Depression affects people of all ages, genders, and backgrounds. Although it is normal to feel sad occasionally, it is a sign that you might need extra support when these feelings become severe and don’t go away. Even mild to moderate depression can be alleviated by counselling using cognitive behavioural therapy. CBT is effective with severe depression as well.
Common symptoms of depression include:
Feelings of hopelessness or worthlessness
Loss of interest in things you used to enjoy
Hyposomnia and Hypersomnia
Eating more or less than usual
Having trouble concentrating on things that used to be easy for you
If you are unsure if depression is affecting your life, take the quiz. Note – both depression and anxiety quizzes are included.
