What are the Benefits of Seeing a Therapist in Kelowna?

Seeing a therapist, although not always an easy decision to make, is most definitely worth it. The benefits of seeing a therapist Kelowna provider in particular can make all the difference in your life. Some of the most notable benefits include;

  • Having someone to help you explore your thoughts and feelings in a way that doesn’t make you feel judged or pressured to conform to any one way of thinking or acting
  • Learning to identify and manage emotional triggers, so that you can avoid situations that cause you distress, anxiety, or depression.
  • Learning how to deal with relationships more effectively whether it’s with friends and family members, at work, or with your romantic partner.
  • Having a safe place to talk about things you are afraid to share with others.

All in all, at Incentive Counselling, we strive to help you deal with trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship therapy, and much more. Seeing a therapist in Kelowna allows you to get a new perspective on your problems and find ways to deal with them that doesn’t involve self-medication or other unhealthy coping mechanisms.

What does a Therapy Session Look Like?

When you come to Incentive Counselling for therapy, a therapy session usually begins with the therapist talking to the client about their symptoms, stressors in their life, and goals for treatment. The therapist will then ask the client to talk about how they are feeling and what is going on in their lives. During this conversation, the therapist may ask questions to better understand the issues or provide feedback and reflections.

The therapist may then use different techniques to help the client manage their depression such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, problem solving therapy, or interpersonal therapy. These techniques are designed to help the client identify negative thoughts and behaviors that can contribute to depression and replace them with more positive ones. The therapist will also encourage the client to express their emotions and provide support.

At the end of the session, the therapist may set goals or assign homework for the client to work on during the week. The therapist may also refer the client to a mental health specialist if more intensive treatment is needed.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

A therapist is a professional who provides psychological counselling and support to individuals with mental health issues. Therapists use a variety of techniques such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, interpersonal therapy, problem solving therapy, and mindfulness based stress reduction to help individuals manage their depression. They work with clients to develop goals, identify strengths and weaknesses, explore emotions, and develop healthy coping strategies. Therapists also provide support and education, helping individuals build self-esteem, create action plans, and learn to manage stress.

The main difference between a therapist and psychologist is their qualifications. A therapist, also known as a counsellor or social worker, typically holds a master’s degree in psychology or counseling while a psychologist has earned an advanced doctorate degree such as PhD or PsyD. Therapists may provide support and guidance to those dealing with mental health issues, but typically do not diagnose or treat mental health disorders. Psychologists, on the other hand, are qualified to diagnose and treat mental health disorders. Incentive Counselling is staffed with therapists who can provide a variety of services tailored to individual needs.

Therapy session pricing will vary depending on the educational level and experience of the counselor providing the service to you, and the type of counselling you are seeking.  For the most part, our rates are as follows:

  • Individual counselling varies from $120 – $165 per 1-hour session.
  • Couples counselling is from $120 – $185 per 1-hour session.

Some counseling services, such as programs offered will have costs for the entire program, not per session costs, so be sure to reach out to us for further details!
